Ann Stewart: This is just an awesome woman. I watched her last night on Larry King Live and I got to say I am a Terri Irwin fan. Did this woman not love and adore her husband, and it showed. Any woman that would trample though the wilderness, get bit by snakes and bugs, and have to wrestle wild beast like crocodiles all for love of her husband, is such a better woman that me. I mean, I love my husband, but I don’t know if I could do all that. My hat and my heart go out to her, over the lost of her precious handsome crocodile wrestling man. She’s raised some beautiful sweet kids too, who act so grown up and kind and caring in public. That’s one of the greatest accomplishments in it’s self. Good luck in your life Terri and I hope you and your children get all the happiness out of life that you can get. My children were a big fan of your precious Steve, and Terri I’m a big fan of yours. God ya bless all of you.

I wrote a book, "Unveiling Helena' last year and I could have played
a James Frey', but I didn't. Instead, I waited to see how the book, which was basically a 'true story', but I sent it to the publishers as fiction...would pan out. I was surprised it did as well as it has been doing.
It was a story based on my grandmother's life....she had a hell of a life!
I hope Oprah picks up on the book's storyline, but I would never tell a lie just so I cold be 'famous'. It is Not worth it!
Just be yourself! People are very sensitive and they know who are 'true'.
Be true!!! Don't build yourself up to be someone that you aren't!

Ann Stewart: I really like Oprah too...I go to Tennessee State University and Oprah used to go to college here too...There is a story going around campus that Oprah used to be a talk queen even back then when she was in school...She just wouldn’t shut up…(kidding) So if I talk a lot will I become successful like Oprah did...Probably not but I can dream.

Ann Stewart: This article got posted at the Dr. Sanjay Gupta talk site posted by Erin and I thought I would post it here cause I’m a Katie Couric fan myself. It was written by my favorite news man Dr. Sanjay Gupta. It's from Time Magazine:

It's never easy to talk to patients about getting their colon probed from the inside by a 5-ft.-long tube, but it's a lot easier than it used to be, thanks to NBC host Katie Couric. After she lost her husband Jay Monahan, 42, to colon cancer in 1998, she launched a campaign to raise awareness of the importance of regular screenings--a campaign that may have done more than any doctor could to get people to make that crucial appointment. After Couric bravely had her colon screened on national television in 2000, researchers at the University of Michigan reported a 20% increase in the number of scheduled colonoscopies. It came to be known as the Couric effect. So when I heard the news last week about the risk of colon cancer for smokers and drinkers, one of my first calls was to Couric. A study of more than 160,000 colon-cancer patients published in the Archives of Internal Medicine found that the cancers of patients who smoked tobacco or drank alcohol were diagnosed an average of 5.2 years earlier than were those of other patients. If you smoke as well as drink, the study suggests, your cancer is likely to be diagnosed almost eight years earlier.

Those are findings that ought to get people in bars across America thinking twice about their bad habits, because the implication is that smokers and drinkers should be getting screened earlier than ever for colorectal cancer. Doctors usually recommend that patients schedule their first exam on or near their 50th birthday. If you get a colonoscopy--considered the gold standard of screenings because it allows doctors to examine the whole length of the lower intestine and snip off any precancerous polyps they find--you may not need to be screened again for 10 years. If you use one of the less definitive tests-- a flexible sigmoidoscopy, barium enema or simple stool analysis--you should get tested more frequently.

Couric was on vacation last week, but she got right back to me by e-mail. "Fear and embarrassment are major obstacles," she wrote, "but educated, well-informed people who want to have long lives should force themselves to get over those feelings. The time to be screened for colon cancer is when you are feeling well and not having symptoms."

She's right, of course. Colorectal cancer remains one of the top three causes of cancer deaths in the U.S. (after lung and breast cancer), but it doesn't have to be; 90% of cases detected early can be cured.

Meanwhile, there are plenty of steps you can take to improve your odds. Exercise is good for both your heart and your colon. You should also try to eat less red meat (which stresses the digestive system) and more vegetables, fruit and--above all--fiber. Obviously, given the news last week, you need to think about cutting back on your drinking-- and, for goodness' sake, stop smoking (or, if you've never started, keep up the good work).

I'm sorry she lost her husband...I would hate to be in her shoes...I thank God my husband is 2 years younger than me and pretty healthy as far as I can tell...I'm pretty sure he'll out live me...I once told him joking of course, if he leaves me I'm going to...and if you go to heaven I'm going with you. We created 3 kids together, that's a pretty big bond.

It's incomprehensible to me that CBS would seriously want Katie, oh excuse me! According to a thread on TVSpy it's Katherine now, Couric in the anchor chair for the evening news. I mean, it's just sad. How can any thinking person believe that this woman is going to be taken seriously? Does CBS think she is going to bring the June Cleavers in to watch the evening news? Au Contraire, mon frere! When they see that there is no one else with her and she's reporting the icky-poo, boring "serious" news and not hyping some hacks' latest self-help book they are going to flip it to whatever syndicated sitcom they happen to like.

What's wrong with Bob Schieffer? I mean really? I like him alot. Great voice. Is it because he has white hair? It must be the CBS version of Jon Klein's (late of CBS) delusion of bringing in the 25-35 demographic. Apparently these people can't learn that folks in that age range don't watch the news period and certainly not at 6 pm. I think that CBS should have given Bill the chair. The ratings would go up, guaranteed. There is alot more folks that love the Bill than post on this board. They lurk it.

Bill (Hemmer) would have been perfect! He's credible, he's handsome but still boyish a la Tom Brokaw, he would appeal to Red and Blue Staters alike. He would have shone even brighter than Brokaw did when he started. He would be perfect. Absoultely perfect.

John Breyman: Yes I would like to see another Clinton in the White House and I don't care if its Hillary or Bill if we can change the rules to allow it. There are many out there capable of doing a better job than GWB!

Ann Stewart: We have a Talk Site on Hillary and I’m just dying to know if she is going to run for President. It has been rumored for years that she would run in 2008.

Kevin Airrington: I myself think we need to nominate the most powerful person in America (After the President)... this person is one of the smartest people in politics...if she will run she has my vote. Dr. Condi Rice.

A position definetly more to her calling, and she has been well accepted after Colin Powell stepped down, which was quite nice to see. pamela9940: Thank you, Paula, for the special on Terri Schiavo yesterday that told her eating disorder was probably bulimia. I have a close relative who is bulimic and she doesn't think anything is wrong with it. The family has tried and tried to tell her the dangers and apparently Terri's illness is one of them. Please elaborate more on this. There are many, many bulimics out here in grave danger. PLEASE WARN PEOPLE! We need your help.

Talk On Parents

Ann Stewart: I was sitting in church today when the topic of discussion became about how society looks at mothers and fathers as parents today compared to how they were looked upon in the past. Some one stated that, ‘Many in our American society today claims that parents don’t spend enough time teaching and training their children, yet in the past the mother was usually considered the stay at home parent and today if the mother doesn’t work than she is looked upon as less than a woman who has a successful career.’ Well I do think that can be true of some people’s perceptions…but I also feel as though if a dad is a stay at home parent many people will perceive him as a just a dead beat dad… Which I feel is a totally wrong perception…. but I do agree that in the pass it seemed like women were honored to be stay at home moms, and today they are considered lazy or less than what they should be if they don’t have a successful job or career and also today it’s hard to finically support a family if both parents don’t work for middle class Americans…I really don’t know how single moms can do it. I feel compassion for them, and I thank God for the wonderful husband I have….I also hope America will get back to being like the old days in the past when it was considered honorable for one of the parents to be a stay at home parent again.

Weight Lost: Surgery Vs. Diet and Exercise

Ann Stewart: I’m not a doctor and I don’t consider myself an expert on this subject, but I have tried many weight lost methods in my life. I have tried programs such as Jenny Craig, Weight Watchers, and YMCA fitness and Gold’s gym exercise clubs. I have tried diets such as low calorie, low carb (such as Atkins and now South Beach)…and I have tried surgeries too, such as liposuction and stomach gastric by-pass and breast reduction. Still just like so many other people I know, I am still fighting the battle of the bulge. It doesn’t matter what weight lost methods you try even surgery cannot keep the weight off. It has to be a life style change. Even people who have had surgery still gain all the weight back and more or they don’t lose much weight at all…Could it be that American food is so fatty that the majority of us are always going to be over weight like the American people are now? Why is America filled with people who are over weight? America is considered to be the most over weight country there is? I was once told by a doctor that being over weight can be genetic. Is it a genetic thing that some people are just born with? Also sometimes when women get pregnant and are prone to gaining weight they seem to have a hard time losing it…So I want to share with you stories and pictures of myself and of other people I know or have read about that have had to fight the battle of the bulge their whole life and tell you what helped them and what happened to me as well.

Folks meet Jennifer…Jennifer is 5 foot 2 inches tall and had been over weight for about 25 years after the birth of her 2nd son. She would fluctuate about 25 to 45 pounds over her idea weight for most of those 25 years after giving birth. In 2001 she joined Weight Watchers and the pounds slowly came off over a 2 year period of time . Jennifer now weighs 128 pounds and has kept the weight off for almost 4 years. She lost over 40 pounds. Jennifer says Weight Watcher is the best program there is and she has also tried many other programs that didn’t help her keep the weight off permanently.

Folks meet Jennifer’s sister Becky….Becky is also about 5 foot 2 inches tall and once weighed over 260 pounds. Becky suffered from obesity and with her weight fluctuating for almost 30 years like a yo-yo, Becky finally gave up on diets and exercise and tried by-pass surgery. Two years after the surgery Becky now weighs less than 130 pounds after being obese and over weight for almost 30 years. Becky had a hard time during her surgery…She had to have a 2nd surgery about a year after for stomach ulcers. She also says she suffered from hair lost and her teeth became weak and frail because of the lost of calcium she suffered from after the surgery and she could chip or brake her teeth very easily. She had many complications such as bleeding from the rectum, and excessive vomiting, but even though she had all those medical problems…she says now she is happy she had the surgery, because she feels like if she wouldn’t have had it she wouldn’t have lost the weight.
Now meet Karolyn…Karolyn is Becky’s daughter-in-law…Karolyn also suffered from obesity and had the by-pass surgery. Karolyn did not have any other medical problems from having the surgery like Becky had…but the difference may be because Karolyn is about 25 years younger than Becky…Karolyn was in her mid thirties when she had the surgery and Becky was in her late fifties…Many doctors have told me that the younger you are and the more healthy you are the better chance you have of not having complications during this surgery and after. Karolyn is 5 foot 11 inches tall and now weighs 132 pounds…She is now a little under weight, and is trying to gain weight. She used to be over 310 pounds.

I also want to say just because you have this surgery doesn’t mean you are going to be slim for life. I know several people who have had this surgery and have gained all or more or most of the weight back again. Take Carnie Wilson for example…Carnie is the spokes person for Stomach Gastric by-pass surgery. Her recent pregnancy with her child could be the main reason she has gained the weight…I know when I was pregnant I got more over weight than I had ever been in my entire life, and I feel like women who are prone to gaining weight will usually gain to much weight during a pregnancy…I am rooting for Carney to lose the baby fat too…cause I feel like she has been a great educator about the methods of surgery weight lost and I want to see her back on getting control of her weight again.

Another famous star that had stomach by-pass surgery and kept the weight off is Sharon Osborne. She isn’t real vocal about it, but to me she is someone who shows that you can keep it off after surgery…because I have seen so many people who haven’t kept the weight off even after having by pass surgery. Maybe the trick to it is try not to get pregnant after stomach gastric by-pass surgery. It just seems like pregnancy can put the pounds back on you if you are prone to gaining weight, even after having surgery like Carnie Wilson did.

Now meet me…I’m Ann Stewart...And these are my before and after pictures of me and I’m the girl who talks all over the Internet about all kinds of things. So talking about this shouldn’t be a problem for me. This picture on the left is me a few weeks after I had my twin boys. Boy was I large…I weigh in at about 286 pounds not long after I gave birth…I had a hard time trying to losing it…Breast feeding made it worst, cause I was suppose to eat more to keep my milk up. If you lose weight you can lose your milk. Now this is the smaller me to the right at a year after by pass surgery and after seeing the success of Becky and Karolyn I decided to try the surgery too, because I had battled weight my whole life and having babies just made me bigger…It has been over a year since my surgery and I still have to diet and exercise, but I am now down to 153 pounds. I had an easy time with the surgery…It wasn’t that painful and unlike Becky I didn’t have any medical complications. I am still losing weight and now I am trying a high protein low carb diet called South Beach, but I don’t recommend surgery for everyone…I think it is better to lose the weight with diet and exercise, but if you are trying and losing the battle of the bulge than surgery may help you. Weight Watchers is probably the best diet I can recommend…Having tried it myself for many years before I got pregnant and being able to keep the weight off then is what makes me think Weight Watchers is probably the best program out there. And that is the end of our weight lost story…If you are trying to lose weight, I hope you read this and consider the options of Surgery Vs. Diet and Exercise.

The Facts Of Life With Lisa Whelchel

Ann Stewart: Hey Everybody…Do you remember that TV show back in the 80’s called “The Facts Of Life?” Well I got to meet the person who played Ms. Blair Warner or
Lisa Whelchel, and I took a few pictures with her…may I say she was a sweet as pie…and most of you know I would tell you if she wasn’t sweet. Well Ms Lisa has a book out called “Creative Corrections” and it’s chopped full of all kinds of great ideas on how to handle your kids when they get a little unruly. So if you have ruff neck twins boys like I do, this book might be able to help you…Lisa has 3 children just like me so when I met Ms. Lisa she was filming a commercial for her new book.
I think I said the silliest thing to Lisa when I first met her…I said “Lisa you are so beautiful…I hope when I get to be your age, I look as good as you do”…and than I thought…Opps…I shouldn’t have said that…Not to say that Lisa is old or anything…but she is a beautiful person and she looks very healthy happy and fit. I guess family life and living the Christian way has agreed with her…I wish Lisa the best with her new book. Some of the tips she gave me during her speech has helped me with my children, and I hope to get to see Lisa again some day…If you would like to learn more about Lisa here’s a link to her website.

Oh and just for the record…Some of the folks on the Talk Webzine talk sites seem to think I pick on George Clooney a little to much so I just want to say that I don’t really know George Clooney…I’ve never meet him, nor have I worked with him…but Ms. Lisa did and she seems to have liked him just fine and the press seem to talk about him a lot too so somebody out there must really like him.

Your point is well taken about actors. I have been going to this little dinner hole-in- the-wall at 77th and Broadway in NY since after 9/11.Well near there is a firehouse and these absolutely gorgeous firemen eat there ! The first time I saw them in the restaurant I thought they were actors but they are stronger looking and handsome. WOW and they are sooo nice.They would make a great calendar! Ah yes but George is cute I was not into George until ER. I missed the first few years of ER I lived in Europe. I looked at that link of George with all that hair yuck. Ann Stewart: Right now I'm on high protein low fat diet...not Atkins...I tried Atkins and it didn't work for me long term...My friend on the Internet Scarlet (Bug) Termite suggested the South Beach diet (cause she tried it and she lose weight) and I tried it and it works a bit better for me than Atkins cause I love fruits and nut and things like that…

And I hate to be so hard on Actors…I like George Clooney too. Most of the time anyways…I just get tried of the press over publicizing these actors…especially when the actors like George Clooney and Tom Cruise have complained about it themselves. I just feel like if they want the press to support them and their careers than they should treat the press better.

brittbray: I cannot help commenting on all the Reagan coverage. I am a staunch, liberal, fire-breathing Democrat who was raised to HATE Ronald Reagan! But in the last few days, all the bitterness I had always felt for him has melted away. I felt so sorry for Nancy as she laid her cheek to where his face probably was under that flag-draped coffin. I also felt the cameras were a bit intrusive. They should have filmed from a respectful distance and not zoomed in for close-ups!
I have come to realize that no matter what our political differences were, Reagan was a man of optimism and ideals--a man who stood for what he believed in and took the blame when something went wrong under his watch. He had humor and respect for his friends as well as his enemies. And above all, he was devoted to his wife and she was devoted to him. He was a great foreign policy president and our current president cannot even begin to compare!
Believe me when I tell you that my views are not in any way partisan, but I do believe this man deserves his place in history.
No one deserves to suffer like I'm sure he and his family did these last ten years. I do hope Nancy continues the fight for stem cell research on his behalf. My mother has Multiple Sclerosis and I know this disease as well as many others can benefit from a voice like Mrs. Reagan's.

WHO IS THE ONE ?

Ann: There is some interesting talk going on at the Harold Ford talk site…It’s seems as though a mysteries person that goes by the user name of “One” has a book coming out and the book is due to be released this next month…We have been trying to guess who “One” really is…Another person who goes by the user name of Mtb2 made these interest guesses.

Mtb2: Do you know what, Harold Honeys? I have been thinking over some mysteries that are happening on this board and placing many pieces together.

I am a very avid reader of books and am constantly trying to figure out what the title of one’s book is.
I searched high and low for “New Releases” coming out in June. Since one is politically savvy and writes biographies/children’s books…there are three theories that are currently swirling in my mind.

1. Former President Clinton is coming out with a new book in June entitled “My Life”. It would be funny and shocking if “one” were Bill Clinton. Ironically, the book will come out on June 22, 2004. Also, Clinton has widely endorsed Harold Ford, Jr. when he gave a speech at Ford’s victory back in 95’.

2. Donna Brazile (former DNC chairwoman?) is also coming out with a new book entitled “Cooking with Grease : Stirring the Pots in American Politics”. Since “one” denied that the book had to do anything with “grease”, I am ruling theory #2 out.

3. This may be far off, but could “one” be Madonna because Madonna also has a book coming out in late June entitled “Yakov and the Seven Thieves.” Since “one” has said that his/her book was biographical, theory #3 is ruled out because “Yakov and the Seven Thieves” is a childrens’ book.

I am leaning towards theory #1. If anyone has any more “theories” or comments about my theories on one’s book, please feel free to post.

Ann: Wow...I would love for theory number 1 to be correct too Mtb2...I have always wanted to talk to or meet Bill Clinton...He is one of the few Presidents that is still alive that I haven't got to meet...I did see him speak at the Oklahoma City bombing though...but I never got to meet him... I'd be happy to meet Hillary too…I idolize her a lot. I would say out of all your guesses Donna Brazile is the most believable choice. That would be awesome if you geussed right.
